NGO Center President Arpine Hakobyan Joins the World NGO Day Global Council

Arpine Hakobyan, President of the “NGO Center” Civil Society Development NGO, has joined the World NGO Day Global Council as Executive Advisor. The Global Council is an international voluntary advisory body. It brings together leaders from across sectors to support the development of the initiative. Arpine Hakobyan’s profile is now available on the World NGO Day website.

World NGO Day is celebrated every year on 27 February. It is dedicated to the people behind civil society. The idea was proposed in 2010 by Marcis Skadmanis from Latvia. That same year, the Day was recognised by 12 countries of the Baltic Sea region. In 2014, it was celebrated globally for the first time in Helsinki, with the participation of UN agencies and the European Union. Today, the Day is observed in more than 140 countries and in over 90 languages.

In her message, Arpine Hakobyan notes: “World NGO Day is a reminder that meaningful change begins with people and very often, it begins within communities. Local development is not a concept written on paper. It is action with real people, in real communities. The most sustainable solutions emerge when communities are not simply beneficiaries, but active partners in change. Change begins in communities. Together, we can give it a wider impact.”

NGO Center is proud to be part of the international World NGO Day community.
