On May 14, tripartite cooperation memoranda were signed to introduce the “Civil Society” academic module in seven educational institutions across Armenia. The module was developed by the “NGO Center” Civil Society Development NGO within the framework of the EU co-funded “STRIVE” project.
The memoranda were signed between NEF Belgium, NGO Center, and the following educational institutions:
- Yerevan State University
- Armenian National Agrarian University
- Eurasia International University
- Goris State University
- Vardenis Medical-Humanitarian College
- Berd Multifunctional College
During the event, Bruno Montariol, EU Project Manager, delivered a speech emphasizing the European Union’s commitment to the development of the education sector in Armenia. He highlighted that the EU encourages the participation of educational institutions in such initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education and promoting sectoral reforms.
Arpine Hakobyan, President of NGO Center, stated that the signed memoranda reflect the readiness and vision of educational institutions to incorporate civil society education into the academic process.“We believe this will help shape responsible, engaged, and active citizens,” she added.
Arpine Baghdoyan, Director of the NEF Belgium Armenia branch and Head of the “STRIVE” project, emphasized in her speech:
“Your educational institutions are the cornerstone of ensuring the long-term sustainability of this component. We are hopeful that more institutions will join this initiative.”
Currently, the participating universities and colleges are in the process of approving their academic curricula, and it is expected that the “Civil Society” module will be taught to students starting from September 2025.
It’s worth noting that a cooperation memorandum was previously signed with Vanadzor State University as well, expanding the network of academic institutions committed to civil society education.
The educational module developed within the framework of the EU co-funded STRIVE project aims to raise students’ awareness of the role, functions, and development paths of civil society. It is designed to enhance civic consciousness and engagement, empowering students to become informed, active citizens who contribute meaningfully to democratic development in Armenia.
